When Al-Aqsa Mosque was set on fire.
On August 21, 1969, Dennis Michael Rohan, an Australian Jew, set fire to the first qiblah, which engulfed the Al-Aqsa Mosque for three hours and caused a large part of the qiblah to fall southeast. The pulpit in the mihrab, which was erected by Salahuddin Ayubi after the conquest of Jerusalem, also caught fire.
A brief history and introduction of Al-Aqsa Mosque is presented in memory of this tragic event
Al-Aqsa Mosque is the first qiblah of Muslims and the third holiest place after the Kaaba and the Prophet's Mosque.
Local Muslims call it Al-Aqsa Mosque or Haram Qudsi Sharif (Arabic: الحرم القدسي الشریف). It is located in East Jerusalem, which is occupied by Israel. It is the largest mosque in Jerusalem with a capacity of 5,000 worshipers, while the courtyard of the mosque can accommodate thousands of worshipers. Since the beginning of the Al-Aqsa Intifada in 2000, non-Muslims have been barred from entering.
Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) had reached here from Masjid-e-Haram during the Ascension journey and after leading the prayers of all the Prophets in Al-Aqsa Mosque, he set out on a journey of seven heavens through Barak.
In Surah Al-Isra 'of the Holy Qur'an, Allah Almighty mentions this mosque in these words:
“Glory be to the One who took His servant Korat from the Sacred Mosque in the night to the Al-Aqsa Mosque, around which We have blessed, so that We may show him some of the signs of Our power. Surely, Allaah is All-Hearing, All-Seeing. (Surat al-Isra ', verse 1)
According to the hadiths, traveling to only three mosques in the world is a blessing, including the Masjid al-Haram, Masjid al-Aqsa and Masjid al-Nabawi.
It is narrated from Abu Dharr that:
I asked the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) which mosque was the first to be built on earth?
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: The Sacred Mosque (Baitullah). Then I said, 'Which one is next?' The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: Al-Aqsa Mosque. I asked: How long is it between them? So the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: Forty years, then wherever it is time for you to pray, pray because that is the virtue. (Sahih Bukhari Hadith No. 3366, Sahih Muslim Hadith No. 520)
Al-Aqsa Mosque is the first qiblah of Muslims and it is obligatory to offer prayers in Ascension. For 16 to 17 months, Muslims used to offer prayers facing Al-Aqsa Mosque, then the qiblah became the Ka'bah of the Muslims.
When the Muslims conquered Jerusalem during the reign of Umar Farooq, on his way out of the city, Hazrat Umar ordered the construction of a mosque near the place where the rock and shine were to be tied, where he and his companions had prayed. Due to its close proximity to Al-Aqsa Mosque, this mosque was later called Al-Aqsa Mosque because at the beginning of Surah Bani Israel of the Holy Quran, this place was called Al-Aqsa Mosque.
During this period many Companions took up residence in Jerusalem for the purpose of preaching Islam and spreading the religion.
Hazrat Yaqub is considered to be the founder of Masjid Daqsa and it was renovated by Hazrat Sulaiman.
Later, Caliph Abdul Mulk bin Marwan started the construction of Al-Aqsa Mosque and Caliph Walid bin Abdul Mulk completed its construction and renovated it. The Abbasid Caliph Abu Ja'far Mansur also repaired the mosque.
After the First Crusade, when the Christians occupied Jerusalem, they changed the Al-Aqsa Mosque a lot. They built several rooms in the mosque to live in and named it the Temple of Solomon, as well as adding several other buildings that were used as necessities and granaries. They built a church inside the mosque and along with the mosque.
Sultan Salahuddin Ayubi cleansed Al-Aqsa Mosque from all traces of Christians after the conquest of Jerusalem on October 2, 1187.
And rebuilt the mihrab and the mosque.
The name Al-Aqsa Mosque was applied to the entire Holy Haram, including all the buildings, the most important of which is the Dome of the Rock, which is one of the finest examples of Islamic architecture. Today, however, the name is applied to the large mosque on the south side of the shrine.
The mosque that is the place of prayer is not the Dome of the Rock, but nowadays due to the spread of pictures of the Dome, most Muslims consider it to be the Al-Aqsa Mosque, although in reality there is no such thing as a mosque in the southern part of the main courtyard and Located on a high place in the middle.
In ancient times, the mosque was applied to the entire courtyard, and this is supported by the statement of Imam Ibn Taymiyyah:
Al-Aqsa Mosque is the name of the whole mosque that was built by Sulayman (peace be upon him) and some people have started naming this place of prayer which was built by Umar ibn Khatabar (may Allah be pleased with him) on the front side of it. Praying in a place built by Umar ibn al-Khattab is better than praying in the rest of the mosque.
Jerusalem fell to Israeli occupation on August 1, 1967, and continues to this day.
Salahuddin Ayubi fought about 16 battles for the liberation of the first qiblah and during each battle he kept this pulpit with him so that he could install it in the mosque after the victory. After this tragic event, the dreamy Muslim Ummah's eye was awakened for a moment and about a week after the tragedy, the Islamic countries established the Muttahida Alam-e-Islami (OIC).
The Jews consider this mosque to be a place of worship built on the site of the Temple of Solomon and want to demolish it and rebuild the Temple of Solomon, although they have never been able to prove by argument that the Temple of Solomon was built here.
